Adrian Tinsley is one of Hawke's Bay's most experienced fly fishing guides. He should be pretty good, he's been fly fishing for over 50 years now and he knows the trout abundant local rivers like the back of his casting hand. If you're the sort of person who likes to be one on one with a guide and would prefer to end up the day as a good mate, then Adrian is the sort of bloke who will make your New Zealand fly fishing experience that much more enjoyable.
He can relate just as well with a complete novice who's looking to learn the basics, as he can with an experienced international visitor who wants to maximise their New Zealand fishing holiday.
If you are looking to catch fish then Adrian holds the key, quite literally to some of the best spots on the river. His local knowledge of the way the rivers are running will mean that it's unlikely you'll fish the same stretch of water during any given week. One evening it might be a secret spot on the stunning Tuki Tuki, probably one of New Zealand's best rivers for the hatch. Adrian has been known to be still fishing here until midnight because the fish are still taking the fly. The next day after a night's rain fall when everyone else thinks the rivers will be too dirty, he'll probably take you to one of his favourite crystal clear pools on the spring fed Mangone. There's always a big brown or two here and one has got your name on it!
